Lead Seals, Lead Shielding, Lead Extrusions, Lead Babbitt

Every month at Nuclead we ship a large variety of lead based products such as Lead Seals, Lead Shielding, Lead Extrusions, Lead Babbitt.

Here are some of the items we shipped recently to customers around the world.

Some of these shipments required significant fabrication activities, some just need to be cut to size or simply picked from our large in-stock inventory of lead products and some require valued added engineering services

Nuclead’s custom precision engineering services include mold fabrication as well as the production of lead alloy and other alloys, CNC machining, stamping and cutting, welding and lead assembly, lamination and PSA adhesive application.

Fabricated Lead Products

• Fabricate complete per specification provided by customer: 3% Antimony / Lead shielding & 99.99% pure lead items: Sold to our regular customer at a National Laboratory facility for fusion experiments. This customer uses Nuclead on a regular basis to fabricate special materials and services, due to our sophisticated capabilities, consistent quality and quick deliveries. All work is per military and government specifications for classified fusion research.
• Fabricate and ship 50 custom spacers per customer provided blueprints, using pure lead per QQ-L-201-f. Sold to a regular customer in New England that specializes in fabrication of high speed Turbo expanders.
• Fabricate a third duplicate order t a general contractor in Canada of Lead Extrusions: Weather-T- Caps: 1.50″ wide x .812″ joint depth x (Ref: Approximately Three 7′ long lengths per 25# billet extruded). Type A = Flat cap. This contractor uses the weathercaps for stone flashing and buys from Nuclead regularly.
• Fabricate and ship .010″ thick pure lead foil & .003″ thick pure copper foil; apply one side of each with 3M 97057 PSA; then slit to various widths per customer purchase orders; then re-coil onto plastic spools for shipment. Sold to a government sub-contractor for sale to Lockheed Martin for radiation shielding.
• CNC machine per customer supplied blueprints…hundreds of pure lead seals. Sold to a bearing and seal OEM for a special item that they purchase from Nuclead on a regular basis. These items are hand delivered due to their extremely tight tolerances and thin finished conditions; to our customer in New England.
• Fabricate and ship four assemblies of a 0.040″ thin walled radiation shielding can, for The California Institute of Technology, One each for their laboratories in Caltech, TiTech, and another for IGCP in Paris, and one spare. They need to drape over a cold plate of a CryoMech PT403 cryocooler, and be bolted and thermally linked to the top copper disk (1 cm thick, 8.6 cm diameter), with enough space for the lead weld between the cylinder and the flat bottom. The finished assembly will slide easily over the top of all items.
• Fabricate and ship: Nuclead Brand, “Puritan” Babbitt: ASTM B-23 #2 (Genuine):(89% tin / 7.5% antimony / 0.35% lead / 3.5% copper): This babbitt was fabricate into a raw brick form for this customer’s requirement to finish machine to their customer specifications.
• Fabricate and ship per customer blueprints: 6% antimony lead shielding into various fusion micro targets. This national laboratory purchases these items from Nuclead on a regular basis because of Nuclead’s quick turn around and high quality.
• Fabricate and ship 1.50 tons of 0.005″ thick pure lead foil per QQ-L-201-f. Sold to a fossil fuel slurry pump OEM for unknown purposes.
• Fabricate and ship Solder: 30Sn/70Pb Extruded bar; solder. Meter Bar: 1lb. per stick; Approx.: 1/2″dia. x 14″; sold to an auto body shop in California for custom auto body repair. This material is used specially for antique autos, to provide original repairs using Body Soldering techniques
• Fabricate and ship Lead Sheet Rock, 48.00″ x 96.00″: 1/32″ Lead Sheeting, Bonded for installation purposes only, to; 1/2″ sheet rock. Sold to a General contractor in New York for a new Veterinary Clinic’s x-ray department.
• Fabricate and ship “Nuclead” Brand, Cast Square edges Lead Brick: 2″ x 4″ x 8″; sold to a Prototype machine shop in New England for its own value added services.
• Fabricate and laminate pure .010″ lead foil and pure .003″ copper foil with 3m 97057 transfer adhesive. This is a multiply release contract with Lockheed martin for unknown usage.
• Fabricate and ship per customer supplied blue prints, special 3% Antimonial lead spacers and washers. Sold to a machine shop in West Virginia for part of a larger value-added assembly.

From Inventory

• Saw prime, paint and ship: 1/32″ Lead shielding strips with #m PSA applied to one side. Sold to a local Engineering firm for radiation shielding purposes.
• Cut, box and ship Lead Glass: Provided for customer prep &/or assembly. 12.50″ x 24.50″ x 7-8mm x 1/16″Le x 150kv: Sold to a general contractor in California for an x-ray room being installed at an urgent care center.
• Cut and ship from inventory, several sheets of Lead Glass: Provided for customer prep &/or assembly. 4′ x 5′ x 8.5-9.5mm x 5/64″Le x 150kv. These pieces of x-ray glass weigh approx. 200lbs each and are being used in new construction of a medical facility in New England.
• Cut and ship from inventory, several sheets of Lead Glass: Provided for customer prep &/or assembly into their own electronic equipment for x-ray shielding. This new England OEM requested a quick delivery which Nuclead could provide.
• Pick and ship two full truck loads, or 80,000lbs of ship ballast to a barge repair firm in Pennsylvania. Nuclead ability to provide a quick 3-day delivery was the main reason of the award of the order.
• Pick and ship many rolls of lead roof flashing for a home owner in Spring Creek, PA.
• Pick and ship from in stock inventory: Lead Wool per QQ-C-40: Sold to a general contractor with licenses for plumbing in Florida. This contractor uses the lead wool instead of the standard caulking lead to seal waist pipes. This is not recommended as the cost is substantially higher, but they prefer to do it this method.
• Pick and ship from inventory: Pure Lead billet: 26# 2.375” to 2.625″ tapered (2.44″ diameter) x Ref: 13″ long. Sold to University of IL Chem. Science Department for research purposes.
• Extrude per lead per ASTM-B-29, 5/16″ diameter x 2 tons. Provide value added services per customer blueprint specifications. Sold to a medial OEM in the Northeast for lead heavy, soft properties.
