This was another busy week at Nuclead. During the week we worked on several different types of lead products, including lead shielding, lead soundproofing below are some of the projects we worked on this week.
Nuclead is capable of shipping many tons of lead products including lead shielding, lead bricks, lead foil, lead alloys and many other lead products. We have one of the largest in stock lead inventories in the country and can supply many products very quickly.
- Lead shielding components were supplied to a Medical company in the radiation therapy field. Radiation shielding is required in this type of treatment facility, both to protect the technicians performing the therapy, and to target the radiation so that it only affects the part of the body being treated, the lead shielding provides protection to the other parts of the patient’s body.
- We quoted future machined lead soundproofing products expected to be ordered for the Lockheed Martin program called the Low Cost Conformal Array (LCCA). The LCCA uses lead soundproofing in a passive planar sonar array, mounted on a submarine’s aft sail structure, and will enhance situational awareness, tactical control and collision avoidance in crowded shipping lanes.
- Nuclead is fabricating pure lead machined billets for Aerospace Alloys provider. A lead billet is a length of metal that has a round or square cross-section, with an area less than 36 sq in. Lead billets are created directly via continuous casting or extrusion. Billets are typically a starting material for a manufacturing process not the finished product and therefore are always further processed. Final products can include lead bar stock, lead wire or as in this case lead alloys. The alloys often also include aluminum, steel, cobalt and titanium. The alloys are fabricated to provide good machining capabilities, high tensile strength or some combination of capabilities.
- Fabricate 2 tons of virgin lead ingots for mining equipment manufacturer; these will be used in the manufacture of engine blocks. Cylinder blocks are typically cast from iron of aluminum with other components such as nickel, chromium, molybdenum or virgin lead.
