Cambridge, MA November, 25 2015 – Nuclead a leading manufacturer and distributor of custom and standard lead products for research, industry and consumers announces the delivery of several orders for architectural lead products including lead gutter outlets, lead T-caps and lead roof flashing.
Lead Products for Construction
Nuclead supplies numerous products for use in the construction industry. Lead Construction products fall into two categories:
New Construction Lead Products
the largest use for lead products in new construction is in the medical field typically in the construction of X-ray rooms for hospitals or dentists. Lead sheetrock is used in the walls, lead glass is used in the windows and lead sheet is used to seal the seams.
Lead weights are also used as elevator counter balance weights in tall buildings.
Architectural Lead products
are typically used to repair older buildings often brick or stone built. These products include lead gutter outlets, lead T-caps, lead roof flashing, Lead roof jacks and lead caulk / lead wool.
Lead T-caps and lead roof flashing and the other products are typically used for two reasons firstly architectural lead products are popular in colder climates as they are soft and easy to bend to shape, durable and weather resistant. They are also able to accommodate movement between adjoining components. Secondly, in the past lead was often used during the construction of these older buildings, therefore to maintain the historical integrity of the building any repair needs to be consistent with the original design.
Lead T-Caps are a soft lead strip which when set and bedded in caulking compound, will form a cap which assures a permanent elastic seal for any masonry joint. After installation, the surface oxidizes rapidly to a neutral grey which blends with the masonry.
Lead flashing consists of thin pieces of lead sheet that can be bent into shape around a building angle or joint. A good example is around chimneys, roof valleys or skylight windows. Lead flashing lasts up to 500 years.
Lead Gutter Outlets provide a flexible corrosion proof outlets to gutters on older buildings.
Lead roof jacks fit over plumbing vent pipes that protrude through the roof to keep them from leaking. Lead roof jacks are often damaged by rodents who gnaw on them in order to sharpen their teeth!
Lead Caulk and Lead wool are used to seal gaps in masonry and between parts of the building.
Lead Fit all plugs, also known as Clean-out Plugs are used in drainage plumbing pipes in older buildings, in modern buildings they are usually made from plastic.
