Lead wool is used in diverse applications including the creation of waterproof joints, as Radiation shielding typically in Lead Blankets, in architectural restoration for sealing Lead Flashing and Aviation for rotor and propeller balancing.

Here are some of Nuclead’s recent shipments of Lead Wool

  • Pick and ship Lead Wool per QQ-C-40. Sold to a roofing company in New Jersey for chimney flashing. The contractor removes damage mortar and replaces it with the lead wool while installing new lead flashing. This provides a waterproof joint. When re-flashing a chimney (for example), the old flashings must be removed, and the new flashings must be inserted into the brick or stone. These new flashings are held into place in the mortar joints using metal wedges. Lead wool is an ideal material to use for this purpose because it’s malleable, doesn’t react with copper as do most other metals, is long-lasting, doesn’t rust, and wedges tight.
  • Pick and dispatch Lead Wool per QQ-C-40 to an aviation repair facility in Texas for scheduled preventive maintained of airplane propellers.
  • Pick and dispatch Lead Wool per QQ-C-40 to a masonry firm on Canada. This customer uses the Nuclead lead wool as joint caulking while install lead flashing into walls and chimneys. The lead wool is installed into the joint with the lead flashing and compressed into the joint to make a tight waterproof seal. The mortar is them installed over the assembly
  • Pick and ship Lead Wool per QQ-C-40: Sold to a distributor located in Wyoming for unknown resale.
  • Pick from Nuclead large in-stock inventory and ship Lead Wool per QQ-C-40: Request 5# bundles for this customer. Delivered to Airbus in New Zealand for propellor manufacturing. Airbus is a European multinational aerospace corporation. As of 2019, Airbus is the world’s largest airliner manufacturer and took the most airliner orders, but still uses Nuclead’s lead wool for smaller prop aircraft manufacturing.
  • Pick Lead Wool per QQ-C-40: Ship to a re-sealer in North Carolina for re-sale to a plumbing contractor that uses the Nuclead lead wool as lead caulking of waist pipes.
  • Pick and ship Lead Wool per QQ-C-40: Sold to a construction company that uses the lead items sold for re-caulking mortar joints.
  • Pick and ship Lead Wool per QQ-C-40. Destination is a restoration company in Pennsylvania for lead flashing caulk in chimney mortar. The craftsman chip away decaying mortar from the chimney brick, install new lead flashing and used the lead wool to set it in place. The lead wool is compacted into the joint to hold the flashing and make a watertight masonry joint at the same time.
  • Pick and ship 1 ton of Lead Wool per QQ-C-40: sold to a reseller in Indian for resale to an aviation manufacturer.
  • Pick and ship a small order of Lead Wool per QQ-C-40. This order was dispatched to an exporter in Florida for export to an Australian manufacturing facility.
