Among the projects this week Nuclead machined some nuclear casks. Nuclear casks are heavily lead shielded containers used to store and or ship radioactive materials. Only the lid of the nuclear cask is a separate piece, a screw thread is machined into the lid of the lead cask and into the vessel itself allowing for a radiation tight seal. Clearly, a high standard of manufacturing is required for such an important storage vessel that contains potentially deadly material. Nuclead is one of the manufacturers with the experience and expertise required to machine nuclear casks to the necessary standards.
Here are so of the details of shipments made last week:
- Fill customer supplied nuclear cask and machine to blue print for an engineering firm in Ipswich, MA
- Lead foil is used in radiation projection applications where the incident radiation is fairly low and also in oil well service applications, where the lead foil offers corrosion protection from the salt water. We have made several lead foil shipments recently here are a couple of examples:
- Fabricate and ship lead foil to an oil and exploration company in Claremore, OK
- Fabricate and ship lead foil to a packing and supply manufacture in Bensalem, PA
- We CNC Machined beryllium copper components for the Brookhaven National Laboratory in Upton, NY. Brookhaven National Laboratory is a multipurpose research institution funded primarily by the U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Science. This is the second time in recent weeks that Nuclead has been chosen as a supplier to this prestigious laboratory
- Nuclead fabricated and shipped custom lead bullet alloy wire to an ammunition supplier in Freehold, NJ. We have seen an increased demand for bullet alloy in recent months. Nuclead can supply all forms of bullet metal.
- Fabricate and ship pure lead bar stock to a sheet metal house for its own value added services in Riviera Beach, FL
