lead counterweights are an equivalent counterbalancing weight that balances a load.
For example, counterweights are used in elevator systems to offset the weight of the passenger cab, In cranes, fork lift trucks and fun-fair rides the counter weight is used to balance the lifted load. Similarly, but on a smaller scale lead weights are used in night vision goggles to balance the forward weight of the goggles with a rear weight.
